Hailing from Toronto, Saint Asonia surfaced in 2015 as a Canadian rock and post-grunge supergroup drawn from members of Three Days Grace, Staind, Finger Eleven, and Art of Dying. After a four-year interval punctuated by multiple personnel adjustments, the outfit reconvened to deliver Flawed Design in 2019.

The project originated when Staind guitarist Mike Mushok and Three Days Grace frontman Adam Gontier initiated songwriting sessions immediately following Gontier’s departure from his main band. Satisfied with the results, the two recruited Eye Empire bassist Corey Lowery and former Finger Eleven drummer Rich Beddoe to round out the first lineup. They then tracked their debut album under producer Johnny K, whose credits include Disturbed, Megadeth, and Sevendust. Issued in July 2015, the self-titled Saint Asonia reflected the combined backgrounds of its creators and performed strongly, entering the Canadian Top Ten while reaching number 29 on the Billboard 200 in the United States.

Ahead of the follow-up, Saint Asonia replaced its rhythm section, installing former Staind drummer Sal Giancarelli in Beddoe’s spot and adding Art of Dying bassist Cale Gontier—Adam Gontier’s cousin—in Lowery’s stead. With the revised lineup stabilized, the group recorded its 2019 sophomore album, Flawed Design, for the Spinefarm label.
