Biography
Nine Lashes came together in 2006 as a Christian alternative rock band headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. Guitarist Adam Jefferson and the group’s original drummer Keith Cunningham had already performed together in an earlier project. Adam’s younger brother Jonathan Jefferson soon joined on guitar, alongside bassist Jared Lankford and lead vocalist Jeremy Dunn. Noah Terrell later took over the drum chair from Cunningham. After honing their live skills by supporting established Christian acts at churches throughout Alabama, the band issued its debut LP, Escape, in 2009. In 2011 an effort to land a slot at a prominent regional music festival placed the record in the hands of musician/producer Trevor McNevan (Thousand Foot Krutch, FM Static), who secured Nine Lashes a contract with Tooth & Nail Records and thereby expanded their reach. McNevan also produced the band’s first Tooth & Nail album, World We View, which appeared in 2012. The release earned favorable notices and reached the Top 20 on Billboard’s Christian music chart, resulting in higher-profile engagements and headline tours. The band’s third album, From Water to War, arrived in early 2014.
