Decyfer Down

Originally performing as Allysonhymn (pronounced "all-eyes-on-him"), the Christian rock outfit Decyfer Down builds an enveloping Wall of Sound around its lyrical message. The group came together in 2002 with drummer Josh Oliver, vocalist/bassist Caleb Oliver, and guitarists Brandon Mills and Chris Clonts supplying its core sound. Their melodic yet hard-charging first album, End of Grey, appeared via Sony Records in June 2006 and found strong favor within Christian circles, placing four successive singles into frequent rotation on the Internet station ChristianRock.net. Caleb Oliver exited soon after, prompting the recruitment of T.J. Harris, previously the singer for Fighting Instinct, to fill the vocal role. The band resurfaced in 2009 with the Grammy-nominated follow-up Crash, which drew increased airplay on independent Christian rock stations; its title track also appeared during the pay-per-view presentation of WrestleMania XXV, broadening the group’s reach. The favorably received Scarecrow, released through Fair Trade Services, arrived in 2013 and was succeeded the next year by the compilation Anthology. Josh Oliver departed in 2015, after which Decyfer Down delivered its independently funded fourth studio album, Other Side of Darkness, in 2016—their first release without major-label support.
