Biography
Hailing from Phoenix, Sam Bruno has built a reputation as a singer and songwriter whose material blends electronic dance textures with hip-hop-driven pop. Born in Young, Arizona, she discovered her voice through church performances and first absorbed country music while attempting to master tunes on piano and ukulele. When she turned ten her family relocated to Phoenix, opening access to a wide array of youth arts programs that encompassed choir, theater, and poetry. Those experiences prompted her to begin composing and staging original material, leading her to install a home recording setup inside her apartment in 2010. Teaming with local producer Lifted, she sharpened her craft rapidly, and the pair soon started developing fresh tracks together. During a 2011 visit to Los Angeles, Lifted played their work for rapper Kanye West, who responded by summoning Bruno and Lifted to London to help shape the track “The One” for his 2012 compilation G.O.O.D. Music: Cruel Summer. Bruno then settled in Los Angeles, where she contributed to songs alongside GTA, Skrillex, and additional collaborators. Her profile rose sharply in 2015 once the solo single “Search Party” appeared on the soundtrack for the film Paper Town. Twelve months afterward she released “Tip of My Tongue,” and both cuts later featured on her first EP, 2017’s I AM SAM PT. 1.
