Sami Koivikko

Sami Koivikko, the Finnish producer known for microhouse and experimental techno, issued three successive 12" singles on Shitkatapult across 2001 and 2002 plus one additional record on Festplatten, each earning strong support from club DJs. Triple R and Tobias Thomas both selected tracks from those EPs for their Kompakt mix albums, granting Koivikko further visibility ahead of his first full-length release on Shitkatapult, the 2003 album Salmiakki. Although his characteristically somber tones have long aligned him with Lawrence, Anders Ilar, and Sascha Funke’s early Kompakt singles, Salmiakki departed from his previous work by favoring denser rhythms and keyboard patterns that steered clear of sustained atmospheric notes.
