Saya Gray, the Canadian singer, bassist, and multi-instrumentalist, crafts music rooted in psychedelic pop alongside alternative R&B. Early notice came her way through work as a session and road musician, prior to the arrival of her first solo effort, the 2022 album 19 Masters. After those inventive QWERTY EPs, the twangy folk track “Shell (Of a Man)” served as an initial preview of her forthcoming 2025 release SAYA.

Toronto, Canada, is where she entered the world in 1995, raised amid constant music thanks to a trumpet-playing, production-minded father and a mother originally from Japan who established the independent Discovery Through the Arts school. Formal training began early, leading her to master bass, guitar, and an array of additional instruments. Professional gigs started while she was still a teenager, including road work alongside Daniel Caesar, Willow, and Liam Payne. At the same time she uploaded performance clips online, quickly building a substantial audience. The low-key, predominantly acoustic 19 Masters arrived in 2022 as her opening solo statement, highlighting a blend of pop, psych, and R&B influences. Two further EPs, the kaleidoscopically inventive QWERTY in 2023 and QWERTY II in 2024, came next. She followed those with the folky “Shell (Of a Man),” positioned as the lead single for the 2025 full-length SAYA.
