Growing up in Edinburgh, Scotland, the hip-hop DJ who later shifted into production first attracted attention on the British scene through his 2005 contribution to Baby Blue’s autobiographical grime cut “Sometimes,” an involvement that led to his relocation to London. He had already begun spinning records at home by age 11, landed his first club date at 14, and sharpened his technical turntablist craft while absorbing classic recordings from Mobb Deep and Gang Starr. Originally the name of a group project assembled with school friends, Show N Prove gradually turned into his solo identity once the volume of solo bookings and production requests under that banner increased. Early partnerships with London notables Estelle, Sway, and Supar Novar kept the momentum going until his production work on Benny Banks’ 2012 single “Bada Bing,” issued through the Warner-owned 679 Recordings, lifted his profile further. A remix of Jessie J’s U.K. Top Five hit “Wild” extended his reach, paving the way for the July 2013 release of his own debut solo single. The infectious, skank-driven “Zimma Frame,” featuring Takura, reached the U.K. charts that summer.
