Biography
Sinead Burgess, a vocalist, composer, and guitarist from Australia who resides in Nashville, Tennessee, first explored songwriting in her early teens after initial forays into rock and pop under major-label guidance, before embracing a more personal and predominantly acoustic style. Her music merges country textures, pop ballad elements, and folk-leaning singer/songwriter approaches, and she issued her self-released debut album, Damaged Goods, in 2018.
Burgess entered the world in Queensland in 1990 and began crafting songs as a child before taking up guitar in earnest and performing onstage during her early teenage period. At age 16 she joined the ABC Music roster and traveled to Nashville to record a country project; dissatisfied with the results, she later aligned with Island Records Australia to pursue a direction apart from country. Working alongside songwriter and producer Stuart Crichton (Pet Shop Boys, Kesha), she released the rock-leaning single “Goodnight America” in 2012. The more pop-oriented “Rearview Mirror” followed in 2013, after which she delivered the EP Wolf, a set of restrained contemporary pop recorded in New York, through ABC Pop in 2016.
Determined to reflect the atmosphere of her live acoustic performances, Burgess took full production control of her first full-length album in addition to writing and performing the material. She supported the Shires on tour and then self-released the intimate Damaged Goods in August 2018.
