Baltimore's Sixty Watt Shaman emerged during the mid-90's after lead guitarist Joe Selby and drummer Chuck Dukehart abandoned the name Supercreep from their prior project and joined forces with vocalist/rhythm guitarist Dan Kerzwick along with bassist Jim Forrester. The group drew from current stoner rock acts such as Clutch and the Obsessed while also echoing the familiar 70's hard rock and heavy metal lineage of Zeppelin, Sabbath, and similar acts. Their debut album Ultra Electric appeared on the independent Game Two Records in 1998, after which they moved to Spitfire to issue Seeds of Decades in 2000. Energetic and skillful though it was, the band's heavy stoner rock style remained largely indistinguishable from the standard template until the stronger 2002 release Reason to Live brought in new drummer Pete Campbell and finally set the music apart.
