Biography
Skinlab formed as an alternative metal band in San Francisco during September 1995, founded by bassist/vocalist Steev Esquivel alongside guitarist Mike Roberts, with the lineup completed by guitarist Gary Wendt and drummer Paul Hopkins. Their demo tapes highlighted intense, ultra-heavy riffing that secured a deal with Century Media, which put out the debut album Bound, Gagged and Blindfolded in 1997. After the subsequent heavy touring, both original guitarists departed, leading to the addition of ex-Skrew guitarist Snake and ex-Killing Culture and Laaz Rockit guitarist Scott Sargeant as replacements. That configuration cut the 1998 Eyesore EP as a stopgap for fans, followed by the full-length Disembody: The New Flesh in 1999. Sergeant exited shortly before the band prepared to return to the studio, with Glen Telford stepping into the vacant role without delay. Working with producer Steve Evetts, they tracked Revolting Room for a summer 2002 release.
