Biography
Godhead, an industrial goth outfit, became the first act signed to Posthuman Records, the label founded by Marilyn Manson, after years of nonstop touring and club dates throughout the underground circuit in their hometown of Washington, D.C. Their aggressive, industrial style attracted Manson’s interest, earning the band a berth on his 2000 international God, Guns, and Government tour. Manson served as executive producer and supervised the making of the group’s Posthuman debut, 2000 Years of Human Error, released that year.
The album represented the fourth release from the hard rock and metal band, which had previously issued three independent records: Godhead in 1994, Nothingness in 1996, and Power Tool Stigmata in 1998. Danny Saber, whose résumé includes Black Sabbath, U2, and the Rolling Stones, produced the sessions, while John X Volaitis, known for work with Orgy, Marilyn Manson, and Korn, handled the mixing. The record conveys Godhead’s religious and social discontent through the intense electronic and rock interplay of lead singer and guitarist Jason Miller, bassist and programmer the Method, guitarist Mike Miller, and drummer James O’Connor. It also contains a dark, macabre cover of the Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby.” David Bowie’s longtime guitarist Reeves Gabrels appeared as a guest musician. Manson contributed vocals to “Break You Down,” with Gabrels serving as co-producer and guitarist on that track as well as on “Tired Old Man.” The band has shared bills with GWAR, Genitorturers, and Christian Death.
