Initially operating under the moniker Amonal, the Spanish rock quintet Soziedad Alkoholika entered the Basque scene toward the close of the 1980s. Their entry point came via the 1990 demo Intoxicación Etílica, after which a self-titled album and the EP Feliz Falsedad both surfaced in 1992. The ensuing year brought a circuit of intimate venues that took the group through Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, and France. In 1995 they launched their own imprint, Mil a Gritos, and released Ratas on it that same year. Three performances taped by the end of 1998 yielded the live album Directo in 1999, followed by Polvo en Los Ojos in 2000.
