Biography
Hailing from Ohio, Spencer Radcliffe blends experimental textures with airy melodies through his instrumental outlet Blithe Field while also writing and performing ramshackle bedroom pop as a vocalist and composer. His first Blithe Field album, Old Songs/New Songs, appeared as a self-release in early 2008; built from synths, electric guitars, acoustic percussion, and drum samples, the record wove irregular sound patterns around tracks titled “Attic Song,” “Basement Song,” and “Woody Allen.” Four additional Blithe Field projects followed—Beautiful Wave ’74 in 2010, Two Hearted the year after, Warm Blood in 2012, and a split with Ricky Eat Acid—before he joined the roster of Run for Cover Records.
That label issued his vocal and songwriting debut, Looking In, under his own name in autumn 2015. Radcliffe supported the album with U.S. dates alongside Alex G, LVL UP, and Elvis Depressedly, among others. Early the next year Orchard Tapes put out another Blithe Field set, Face Always Toward the Sun. His second proper album, Enjoy the Great Outdoors, emerged as a group effort involving members of his road band and was released under the name Spencer Radcliffe & Everyone Else.
