Popular German rapper Sun Diego assumes the comic persona SpongeBozz, donning the guise of cartoon figure SpongeBob Squarepants to deliver combative battle rhymes. The figure debuted in 2013 on the German online battle-rap platform JuliensBlogBattle, where SpongeBozz claimed victory over competitor 4tune. Returning the next year, the character secured a second triumph via an intricate video attack aimed at Gio. Although SpongeBozz’s true identity remained officially undisclosed, numerous listeners detected vocal and stylistic overlaps with Sun Diego; Kollegah, a frequent Sun Diego collaborator, later verified the connection during an interview with the German hip-hop publication Juice. Retirement from battle rap was declared alongside the unveiling of the first full-length project, Planktonweed Tape, which surfaced in April 2015 and promptly topped the album charts in both Germany and Austria. The follow-up release, Started from the Bottom/KrabbenKoke Tape, reached stores in 2017 through the independent imprint Bikini Bottom Mafia/Soulfood.
