Possessing a rich, velvety voice and an old-school aesthetic inspired by pop crooners such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, the Platters, and the Ink Spots, Stephen Sanchez performs as a singer, songwriter, and guitarist. The Northern California native achieved international success in 2022 through the retro-styled ballad "Until I Found You," which surged into a massive hit across social media. That track anchored his debut album, Angel Face, which entered Billboard's Top 100 in 2023.

Earlier, Sanchez issued a cover version of Cage the Elephant's "Cigarette Daydreams" that helped him obtain a deal with Republic Records. He released the six-song EP What Was, Not Now in 2021, which accumulated millions of streams driven by the singles "I Want You" and "The Pool." His sophomore EP, Easy on My Eyes, followed the next year and contained "Until I Found You." In the first half of 2023, Sanchez delivered the singles "Evangeline" and "Only Girl" before launching a headlining tour to promote them. That June in the U.K., he performed at Glastonbury Festival with Elton John, who accompanied him on "Until I Found You." These milestones preceded the September arrival of Sanchez's debut album, Angel Face.

A loose concept album concerning a '50s troubadour in love with the femme fatale girlfriend of a mob boss, Angel Face reached number 90 on the Billboard 200 and appeared on charts in the U.K., Europe, and Oceania. Its performance led to a deluxe version issued in April 2024 that included the song "The Other Side."
