Biography
Born to a Jamaica-born musician, the Swedish singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Stephen Simmonds took up piano during his earliest childhood. His immersion in popular music drew first from American smooth soul and Jamaican roots reggae, then from alternative pop/rock.
Joining forces with his friend and fellow musician Peter Catries, he crafted a demo that secured his European debut. The 1997 release Alone included the local music-award-winning hit single “Tears Never Dry.” Priority Records later issued the same album in the U.S. as Spirit Tales, adding the tracks “I Can’t Do That,” produced by Soulshock, and “If I Was Your Man.”
