Originating from Copenhagen, Denmark, Jakob Skott first unveiled his intricately treated dream pop productions under the Syntaks name in 2001, when the MP3 label DataMusik put out a three-track recording. In 2002, Skott joined forces with his regular associates Jonas Munk (aka Manual) and Jess Kahr to issue the post-rock/IDM hybrid Orion as Limp on the Morr Music label. Following 2004's Golden Sun, credited to Manual and Syntaks, Skott turned his attention to solo work and delivered Awakes plus the limited-edition Below the Meridian—both issued by the Scottish Benbecula label—in 2006. The former featured vocals by Anna Cecilia, converting Syntaks into an established duo. Ylajali, their initial full-length album as a duo, appeared on Ghostly International in 2009. Skott also worked with Munk and Kahr in the project Causa Sui.
