Christ is the messiah-inspired alter ego of Scotland-born Chris H, a onetime associate of the Warp Records pair Boards Of Canada. He is credited with input on that duo’s near-legendary debut album Twoism, whose first pressing was limited to 100 copies before Warp reissued it in 2002. Beyond these details, scant verified biographical information exists on the Scottish musician; as with his former associates, verifiable facts remain clouded by rumor and deliberate concealment. Issued on the absorbing Scottish imprint Benbecula, Christ’s Pylonesque mini-album displayed clear echoes of his prior collaborators, setting evocative kaleidoscopic melodies against neo-hip-hop beats and rendering vocal traces so heavily processed that they became unintelligible. The EP’s final piece, “Absolom (For Lucy),” further employed children’s vocalizations in a manner reminiscent of those featured on Boards Of Canada’s own Warp debut, Music Has The Right To Children. Together with the duo’s 2002 album Geogaddi, the release pointed to unusual activity within Scottish electronic music. Christ also appeared on the anonymously issued Alba Absurdia compilation of Scottish electronica, sharing the collection with Frog Pocket and Reverbaphon.
