Biography
Bethel Music operates as a Christian praise and worship collective headquartered in Redding, California, at the charismatic Bethel Church under Bill Johnson’s ministry. Functioning simultaneously as congregation, publishing entity, and record label, the organization serves as a creative home for vocalists, ensembles, instrumentalists, and songwriters that include Brian & Jenn Johnson, Jeremy Riddle, Steffany Gretzinger, William Matthews, and additional contributors. Emerging in 2001, the collective has issued multiple live worship recordings that achieved CCM chart success, among them You Make Me Brave, Starlight, Homecoming, Simple, and We Must Respond.
Early milestones encompass 2012’s The Loft Sessions, captured across several evenings in a renovated loft space, and 2014’s You Make Me Brave: Live at the Civic, which reached number ten on the Billboard 200. Sony subsequently began distributing the group’s output, first with 2015’s Come Alive and then 2016’s Have It All, the latter taped during weekend services at Bethel Church. In 2017 Bethel Music delivered Starlight, its initial tour-recorded project, followed in 2018 by Moments: Mighty Sound, the first release captured live without a prepared set list; the Billboard 200 entry featured collective members Amanda Cook alongside Brian & Jenn Johnson and others.
Victory arrived in 2019, partly shaped by the recovery of Jaxon Taylor, son of Bethel Music CEO Joel Taylor, from hemolytic-uremic syndrome, and contained inspirational material from stalwart participants that included Melissa Helser, Sean Feucht, Emmy Rose, Brian Johnson, Paul and Hannah McClure, and Hunter GK Thompson. Later that year the collective issued the Spanish-language Bethel Music en Español along with Without Words: Genesis, the third installment in that instrumental series.
Peace, the group’s second official studio album, opened 2020 and spotlighted worship leaders Cory Asbury, Jonathan David & Melissa Helser, and further contributors; it entered the Billboard 200’s Top 100 and preceded the live recording Revival’s in the Air. Homecoming, a concert LP, surfaced in 2021, with the studio album Simple following in 2022. Come Up Here, taped at the annual Heaven Come Conference, appeared in 2023. Bethel Music launched 2025 with the live worship project We Must Respond, which incorporated appearances by Brooke Ligertwood, Abbie Gamboa, and Aodhán King.
