Biography
The Nashville-based Contemporary Christian outfit I AM THEY brings together vocalist and guitarist Matthew Hein, vocalist and harmonium player Abbie Parker, vocalist and guitarist Jon McConnell, keyboardist Justin Shinn, and drummer Sara Palmer. Their sound merges lively pop melodies with Americana-tinged textures and lyrics rooted in Christian faith and redemption. The group first came together in Carson City, Nevada, during 2008, initially performing at regional churches under the name Solomon's Porch. In 2009 they adopted the title I AM THEY, drawn from a New Testament passage. A contract with Provident Music Group followed in 2013, leading to the 2015 release of their self-titled debut album on Essential Records. That project secured a Dove Award nomination for New Artist of the Year and peaked at number ten on Billboard's Top Christian Albums chart.
