Biography
David Crowder, a vocalist and guitarist, first entered the music business after discovering that more than half the student body at Baylor University, the Christian campus he attended in Waco, Texas, avoided church altogether. In response he began actively drawing peers into worship gatherings while composing original songs intended to engage younger listeners. Those songs eventually found release as his debut album, Can You Hear Us?, issued in 2002 under the David Crowder Band name. The project featured guitarists Jack Parker and Jason Solley, drummer Jeremy Bush, bassist Mike Dodson, and electric violinist Mike Hogan.
The group’s second album, Illuminate, arrived in fall 2003. A year later came The Lime CD, assembled from two earlier live discs—The Green CD and The Yellow CD—that had been handed to fans who pre-ordered previous releases or attended various launch events. Sunsets & Sushi surfaced in early 2005, followed that autumn by the bluegrass-tinged studio album A Collision. Its 2006 spinoff, B Collision, explored the band’s bluegrass leanings even further. Remedy appeared in 2007 and Church Music in 2009. A four-song acoustic EP drawn from the latter, Summer Happiness, was released in 2010. The David Crowder Band’s sixth and final studio album, Give Us Rest; Or, A Requiem Mass in C (The Happiest of All Keys), arrived in 2012. Crowder’s solo debut, Neon Steeple, followed in 2014 under the name Crowder.
