Building 429

Drawing its moniker from Ephesians 4:29 ("Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up"), Building 429 approaches songcraft with equal regard for melody and meaning. Fronted by vocalist and guitarist Jason Roy, the group’s formative lineup also included bassist Scotty Beshears, guitarist Paul Bowden, and drummer Michael Anderson. The quartet made an immediate impact within the CCM sphere in 2004 when its debut EP Glory Defined, along with the title-track single, ascended to the summit of the relevant charts. Three months afterward, the full-length The Space in Between Us arrived via Word Entertainment, the Warner/Curb imprint, generating several additional hit singles. Building 429 subsequently earned the Dove Award for New Artist of the Year and shared stages with Christian music figures Jeremy Camp and Casting Crowns. Rise, the band’s fourth studio album, surfaced in 2006; Iris to Iris followed in 2007. The self-titled sixth studio album appeared in 2008. Three years later the ensemble resurfaced with Listen to the Sound, which spotlighted the single “Where I Belong.” Building 429 moved swiftly into 2013’s We Won’t Be Shaken, highlighted by the track “Wrecking Ball (Press On),” and the project climbed to number one on Billboard’s U.S. Christian Albums chart. The single “Impossible” reached audiences in 2015.
