Biography
Audio Adrenaline rose to prominence in the contemporary Christian music scene of the 1990s through their distinctive mix of rock, rap, and funk. The ensemble formed in 1986 at Kentucky Christian College, where Mark Stuart served as lead vocalist alongside guitarist Barry Blair, bassist Will McGinnis, keyboardist Bob Herdman, and drummer Brian Hayes. Operating initially under the name A-180, they issued an independent single titled "My God" that attracted Forefront Records president Dan Brock, prompting the label to release the band's self-titled debut album. In 1993 Don't Censor Me arrived and produced successful singles in "Big House" and "Can't Take God Away." The live recording Live Bootleg appeared in 1995, followed by Bloom the next year, an album that entered the Billboard pop charts inside the Top 60. By 1997 the lineup had shifted to Stuart, McGinnis, Herdman, and new drummer Ben Cissell, and the group returned with Some Kind of Zombie; Underdog appeared two years afterward. Hit Parade, a retrospective collection marking nearly a decade in the business, offered listeners a concise overview of their work, after which Lift emerged the subsequent year.
Worldwide, Audio Adrenaline's seventh studio album, reached stores in 2003 and secured the band a Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album in 2004. They repeated that achievement the following year with Until My Heart Caves In.
Citing ongoing vocal cord damage to lead singer Stuart, the band announced its dissolution in 2006. That same year the career-spanning compilation Adios: Greatest Hits was issued, and a farewell tour took place in 2007. Two years later the members reunited for a single performance at Australia's Easterfest.
Audio Adrenaline reconvened in 2013 with a revised roster that included former dc Talk singer Kevin Max and delivered the album Kings & Queens. Further personnel adjustments shaped the band's tenth studio release, 2015's Sound of the Saints, on which Stellar Kart frontman Adam Agee assumed lead vocal duties.
