Big Daddy Weave

Formed in Mobile, Alabama in 1998, Big Daddy Weave came together as a contemporary Christian rock band while its founding members—Mike Weaver on guitar and lead vocals, Jay Weaver on bass and vocals, Jeremy Redmon on guitar and vocals, Jeff Jones on drums, and Joe Shirk on saxophone and keyboards—were all enrolled in school. Under Mike Weaver’s commanding vocal presence and songwriting, the group developed into a consistent recording and touring outfit. Among its releases were several projects on the Fervent label, such as One and Only in 2002, Every Time I Breathe in 2006, and the 2011 compilation The Ultimate Collection, which gathered key previously issued tracks, along with others. An independent outing, Neighborhoods, had appeared in 2001. The band resumed activity in 2015 with its seventh studio album, Beautiful Offerings. Jay Weaver, the bassist, passed away at age 42 on January 2, 2022, after suffering complications related to the COVID-19 virus.
