Operating from Atlanta's Grace Midtown Church, Housefires function as a worship collective whose organic, uplifting style echoes the approach of All Sons & Daughters and United Pursuit. Emerging in the middle of the 2010s, the ensemble has issued multiple live albums, two of which—Housefires III in 2016 and Housefires V in 2019—reached the higher positions on Christian charts. Their seventh collection, How to Start a Housefire, appeared in January 2023.

The collective was established in 2014 under the primary leadership of Kirby Kaple on vocals, Tony Brown on vocals and guitar, and Nate Moore on vocals and guitar, while founding participant Pat Barrett supplied substantial contributions to the initial recordings. Their self-titled debut arrived that same year, with Housefires II following in 2015. Commercial momentum built with Housefires III, which attained the Top Ten on two U.S. charts and climbed to number two in the U.K. After the release of their fourth album, We Say Yes, Barrett departed to pursue a solo path. Kaple, Brown, and Moore sustained an active writing schedule that yielded an annual project thereafter, beginning with Housefires V in 2019, continuing through the collaborative Housefires + Friends (Live) in 2020, and Housefires VII in 2021.
