John Mark McMillan, a singer and songwriter, entered the world in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he spent his early years. His first album, Hope Anthology, Vol. 1, appeared in 2002. Two years later came The Song Inside the Sounds of Breaking Down, whose track “How He Loves” later emerged as a widely performed worship song covered by many artists. Integrity Music put out Medicine in 2010 and Economy the following year. Borderland arrived in 2014 on McMillan’s own Lionhawk label; the album reached the Top 50 of the Billboard 200, his first time charting there. During summer 2015 he and his wife, Sarah McMillan, issued the You Are the Avalanche EP. That autumn saw the release of the live set Live at the Knight, taped earlier at the Knight Theater in Charlotte, North Carolina, and featuring guest appearances by Kim Walker-Smith, Bryan & Katie Torwalt, and Sarah McMillan. Mercury & Lightning, McMillan’s sixth LP, came out in 2017 and was followed in 2018 by the standalone single “Wilderlove.”
