Biography
Even as she continues developing her own projects, Kim Walker-Smith belongs to the Jesus Culture ensemble and its youth outreach ministry. Originally from Albany, Oregon, the singer, songwriter, and worship leader relocated to Redding, California, for college. There she connected with Bethel Church, where she would later serve as worship leader, and in 1999 the congregation introduced its Jesus Culture ministry. Her first recorded appearance came in 2006 on the debut Jesus Culture Music album Everything, followed two years later by the solo release Here Is My Song, issued under the name Kim Walker. Ongoing Jesus Culture recordings and her marriage to photographer Skyler Smith delayed any return to solo work until the 2013 live album Still Believe appeared under the Kim Walker-Smith banner. The Smiths issued their joint project, the folk-leaning Home, later that year, and in 2014 Walker-Smith delivered her first holiday set, When Christmas Comes, which reached the upper half of the Billboard 200. Her first album of entirely original material with no covers, On My Side, arrived in 2017, performing strongly on both Christian and pop charts and leading to the early 2018 release of the live concert album On My Side.
