Tax the Heat fuse stadium-scale modern rock with gritty, working-class R&B intensity, drawing from the likes of Cream, Thin Lizzy, the Black Keys, and Masters of Reality. Hailing from Bristol, England, the quartet—vocalist and guitarist Alex Veale, bassist Antonio Angotti, guitarist JP Jacyshyn, and drummer Jack Taylor—began cutting demos soon after they formed. Those recordings reached heavyweight producer Chris Goss, whose credits include Queens of the Stone Age and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and he oversaw the band’s self-titled debut EP in 2013. A string of prominent gigs and festival appearances followed, leading to a contract with Nuclear Blast Records. Evansson, known for work with Robert Plant, Siouxsie Sioux, and Goldfrapp, produced the long-awaited first album, Fed to the Lions, which arrived in early 2016. Two years later the group delivered Change Your Position, a politically and socially charged set that confronts the challenges of human connection in a post-Brexit, Donald Trump-era landscape.
