Country singer and songwriter Ted Russell Kamp entered the world in New York and spent his formative years in the Northeast, yet it was only after finishing college that he began shaping a musical path while based in Seattle, WA. Leading the trio Ponticello, he issued four albums—The Escape Artist, Cotton Diesel, Down Like Mercury, and Dark Sides—with the 2003 anthology The Ponticello Years gathering that body of work. Under the name Ted Kamp, he also delivered his debut solo effort, the 1996 instrumental jazz set Dedications.

In 2001 he relocated to Los Angeles, where he assembled Union Pacific, performed with additional groups, and contributed to numerous sessions. Two years later he joined Shooter Jennings’ backing ensemble, the .357’s, as bassist. For Jennings’ 2005 release Put the O Back in Country, Kamp supplied the track “Steady at the Wheel” and, alongside Jennings and Leroy Powell, co-wrote “Southern Comfort.” He returned to solo recording with NorthSouth in 2005 and Nashville Fineline the following year. On Divisadero, issued January 30, 2007, through Kufala Records, he handled writing, arranging, production, and performance on nearly a dozen instruments, with Jennings and Jessi Colter appearing as guests.
