The Casket Girls, a trio from Savannah, Georgia, originated after Ryan Graveface, known for his contributions to Black Moth Super Rainbow, crossed paths with sisters Elsa and Phaedra Greene in an unplanned encounter. The siblings sat in a public square, exchanging autoharp accompaniment and vocals between themselves. Graveface found himself drawn in completely, so he introduced himself to the pair and proposed they form a band. From a large set of instrumental tracks that Graveface supplied, the Greene sisters crafted lyrics and vocal lines across fifteen songs that moved between eerie neo-disco and softly melodic electronic indie pop. TW Walsh was brought in to supplant the original electronic drum parts with fuller live drumming, which wrapped the sessions for the Casket Girls’ first album, Sleepwalking. The record appeared in late 2012, after which the band launched a tour in its wake. The same method of overlaying the Greene sisters’ lyrics and melodies onto Graveface’s instrumental foundations yielded the second album, True Love Kills the Fairy Tale, a dreamier and more haunted work that surfaced in early 2014. Two years afterward came another nocturnal release, The Night Machines, again featuring Walsh on drums.
