Biography
Despite widespread assumptions that rap-metal had become a relic of the past, Los Angeles outfit the Chimpz revived the style through their propulsive and stylistically fluid approach. The lineup features Artimus Prime on lead vocals and guitar, rapper Chris "Chuck P" Coast, guitarist Cary "Scary Cary" Singman, bassist Shawn "Sonic" Lyon, and drummer Sean "Capmasterfresh" Topham. Their sound channels the raw, hip-hop-infused hardcore of early trailblazers such as Suicidal Tendencies and Faith No More while also nodding to nu-metal acts like Korn and (hed) p.e. Working independently under their own Chimpz Music Worldwide imprint, they began issuing material in 2006 with the debut album On Parole. Later projects arrived in steady succession, among them Home Invasion in 2010, Who Can I Trust in 2011, and War Machine in 2012. Marking a return to wider attention, the band put out an eponymous EP in 2014.
