Biography
The Great Discord operates as a Swedish progressive metal ensemble led by a female singer and drawing from a broad palette of technical metal, alternative metal, hard rock, and prog rock. Frontwoman Fia Kempe anchors the five-piece lineup. Longtime friend Axel Holmgren, who had previously played drums in 12 Gauge Dead and Prowess, joined her in launching the group to fuse their shared musical passions. The pair enlisted guitarists Andre Axcell, a veteran of both of Holmgren’s earlier projects, and Gustav Almberg of PG.Lost, along with drummer Rasmus Carlson of Pegasus.
Following the creation and professional recording of several demos, Metal Blade Records took notice and offered the band a contract in 2014, promptly arranging studio time that permitted a self-produced effort. The label and group issued four cinematic teaser videos across late 2014 and early 2015. A full video single for “The Aging Man” followed in the spring, distributed to heavy metal outlets, before the debut album Duende appeared in June.
