Biography
Errol Kemar Thompson, known professionally as the Kemist, works as a Jamaican DJ, recording artist, and producer whose lively, low-end-driven style fuses catchy hooks with sharp-tongued verses. Born in Kingston to reggae royalty, he is the son of radio personality and musician Errol Thompson and roots-reggae icon Marcia Griffiths. At age three he made his stage debut alongside Bob Marley, then spent his childhood serving as music director and instrumentalist in his mother’s band. His breakthrough arrived in 2013 when he appeared on the club anthem “Assets” by Yellow Claw and Tropkillaz. Subsequent team-ups with Sak Noel, Juicy M, DirtCaps, Lny Tnz, and Cesqeaux led to further exposure, followed in 2017 by his remix of Zedd and Alessia Cara’s “Stay.” He signed with Universal Music in 2018 and released the single “Body Can’t Lie” featuring Nyanda of Brick & Lace. The Mayhem EP surfaced the next year, while the high-energy tracks “Summer Body” and “Bassline” emerged in 2020.
