Biography
Formed by singers and songwriters Leisha Hailey and Heather Grody, the alternative pop duo the Murmurs launched their partnership in 1991 during their time as students at New York City's American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Their first outing came via the independent release Who Are We, which helped them build a devoted audience through appearances on the East Village club scene and paved the way for a 1994 deal with MCA; the resulting self-titled LP introduced the novelty hit "You Suck." Once an acoustic act, the Murmurs expanded their lineup with bassist Sheri Ozeki and drummer Sherri Solinger for the 1997 album Pristine Smut, and Blender arrived the next year.
