Biography
Veteran R&B performer Michael Bivins personally selected the three singers who form Transitions, positioning the group as carriers of a 1970s soul aesthetic into the present era. Each man had approached Bivins separately seeking an individual deal, yet the producer instead united their voices: Charles “Gator” Moore from Detroit, Rashawn Worthen from Harlem, and Balewa Muhammad from Tampa. In the first promotional materials Bivins likened the newcomers to a young Temptations and repeatedly highlighted their allegiance to classic soul values. Far from a purely nostalgic project, however, the trio folds contemporary subject matter into that vintage sonic framework. Their first album, Back in da Days, functions as the imagined soundtrack to a motion picture of identical title that Bivins wrote, tracing both the hardships and the pleasures of ghetto life.
