Biography
Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, Threat Signal blends melodic metalcore with death and thrash influences, placing the band alongside peers such as Fear Factory and Lamb of God. Singer Jon Howard and his cousin, lead guitarist Rich Howard, launched the project in 2003 and completed the initial roster with rhythm guitarist Kyle McKnight, bassist Marco Bressette, and drummer Adam Matthews. Early visibility arrived through the international online metal community when four demo tracks earned substantial rotation on numerous sites, paving the way for the 2005 release of the Rational Eyes EP on Gomek Records. Nuclear Blast Records signed the group later that year, and they recorded their debut album with Fear Factory guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers, yet repeated personnel shifts postponed the album’s appearance for nearly twelve months. Drummer Adam Matthews departed first and was succeeded by George Parfitt; founding guitarist Rich Howard then exited, prompting Bressette to shift to lead guitar while Pat Kavanagh joined on bass. After Under Reprisal finally emerged and the band completed a lengthy tour, Bressette abruptly quit in March 2007, followed by Parfitt, who cited family reasons. Threat Signal pressed ahead by demoing songs for a second album and auditioning replacements, ultimately stabilizing around Howard, Kavanagh, drummer Norm Killeen, and guitarists Travis Montgomery and Adam Weber; the resulting Vigilance appeared in 2009. Weber and Killeen exited the following year, making room for drummer Alex Rüdinger and guitarist Chris Feener, both of whom debuted on the self-titled 2012 album produced by Zeuss. Further changes preceded the 2017 release of Disconnect: Rüdinger was replaced by Joey Muha of Our Lady of Bloodshed, and touring guitarist Matt Perrin took over for Feener, though Muha left to join Jungle Rot prior to recording and was succeeded by Andrew Minarik.
