Tiktak stood out on Finnish Top 40 playlists throughout the early 2000s, whether delivering bouncy, Hanson-esque teen pop or synth-driven indie rock. The lineup consisted of six girls—Petra, Mimmu, Emppu, Noora, Nea, and Tuuli—who attended a music school in Helsinki and were still barely teenagers when they secured a major-label contract with Universal in 1999. Their first album, Frendit, appeared in Finland shortly afterward, after which the group tried to enter the American market the next year. Operating under the name Tik N' Tak, they issued two English-language singles, “Don't Look Back” and “Upside Down,” and issued a stateside version of their debut retitled Friends. Although various indie critics offered enthusiastic notices, the release failed to connect with U.S. listeners, prompting Tiktak to head back to Finland in 2001. On their follow-up, Jotain Muuta (Something Else), the band resumed composing material in Finnish, then issued three additional albums across the ensuing four years. One of those records, 2005’s Myrskyn Edella, received a nomination for Best Pop Album at the Emma Awards that year.
