PMMP, the Helsinki group built around vocalists Mira Luoti and Paula Vesala, has also featured drummer Heikki Kytölä, bassist Juho Vehmanen, and guitarist Mikko Virta, while relying heavily on the contributions of producer, songwriter, and longtime friend Jori Sjöroos. The act entered the scene in 2003 with the single “Rusketusraidat,” whose rapid success launched the band’s rise to become one of Finland’s most popular acts. Three albums followed from 2003 through 2005—Kuulkaas Enot!, Kovemmat Kädet, and Leskiäidin Tyttäret—each of which entered Finland’s Top Ten album chart. PMMP moves fluidly between concise, sharply drawn punk-tinged songs and atmospheric, melody-driven pieces, a breadth that accounts for the group’s appeal to listeners of varying ages.
