Biography
TIP served as the foundational and periodically revived pseudonym for Clifford Harris, the Atlanta rapper better known as T.I. and recognized for multiple platinum certifications along with Grammy victories. Following his 1999 signing to LaFace, the artist omitted the final letter from his chosen stage name in acknowledgment of Q-Tip, the veteran performer already listed as a solo artist on Arista, LaFace’s parent imprint. Although Harris maintained T.I. as his formal billing, he persisted in identifying himself as TIP across his recorded work, ultimately restoring the original alias in 2015 for the independently issued EP Da’ Nic, a project that deliberately echoed his earliest pre-commercial recordings. That same year also saw the appearance of The Dime Trap, his tenth full-length album, issued once more under the TIP moniker.
