Biography
After establishing himself through his tenure in the Nigerian collective L.O.S. (Loud on Sound), Tomi Thomas stepped forward independently via the 2014 solo debut Patience, which energized the Afro-pop landscape. Additional singles arrived in its wake, among them the 2021 EP Hopeless Romantic.
Thomas entered the world in Lagos and spent his formative years in the northern city of Kano prior to relocating back to the capital alongside his family. Displaying an early flair for performance, he gravitated toward music and joined the Nigerian Afro-pop outfit L.O.S. Once the ensemble issued several recordings, Thomas launched his solo path in 2014 through Patience. Merging Afro-pop elements with R&B, hip-hop, and dancehall, he swiftly gained recognition, highlighted by “Ready or Not” alongside GMK, which climbed the Nigerian charts. His first full-length project, Black Couch, Vol.1, surfaced in 2016 and was succeeded by the Illusion EP, crafted with fellow Nigerian producer LeriQ. “Hopeless Romantic” surfaced in 2020 and received a remix that included U.K. dancehall artist Stylo G; the Hopeless Romantic EP then arrived in 2021 in tandem with dancehall legend Buju Banton.
