Biography
Tor Miller crafts songs as a vocalist driven by passion, displaying talent for composing pieces filled with poetic and insightful words. Born in Brooklyn, his musical curiosity sparked at twelve years old following his parents' split, prompting a relocation alongside his mother to a modest New Jersey community. Throughout one year, daily commutes spanning two hours each way to his Brooklyn school occurred in tandem with his mother. These journeys exposed him to recordings by Elton John, David Bowie, Billy Joel, along with additional performers from the seventies and eighties, thanks to her selections. Taking up piano instruction as a result of this influence, he refined his abilities over time as a student at New York University's Clive Davis School of Music. At nineteen, daytime academics paired with nighttime shows at New York City venues, providing initial public appearances. Upon departing NYU, executive Daniel Glass—associated with Phoenix, Mumford & Sons, and the Temper Trap—discovered his work and placed him under contract with Glassnote Records. His introductory EP, Headlights, came out in 2015. Slick debut full-length American English followed the next year. For the subsequent release, Miller stepped away from urban intensity to put out Surviving the Suburbs during 2018.
