Biography
London's Trailer Trash Tracys craft a shoegaze-inspired sound centered on cavernous reverb and the deadpan vocals of Suzanne Aztoria rather than dense layers of guitar effects. The band's core duo consists of Gothenburg-born Aztoria and guitarist Jimmy Lee, who had previously played together in another group but found its methods overly artificial and decided to pursue an independent path. Through mutual friends they linked up with bassist Adam Jaffrey and drummer Dayo James, launching live performances in February 2009 that included a support slot for the xx. That same year the group issued its first single, Candy Girl/Wish You Were Red, on No Pain in Pop. Although the track drew praise from The Guardian and Dazed & Confused, Trailer Trash Tracys opted to focus on crafting their debut album, Ester, rather than issuing further singles or maintaining a constant touring schedule; the record broadened the spooky pop approach of Candy Girl/Wish You Were Red through additional unexpected and experimental elements. Featuring cover artwork by Ultra Vivid Scene's Kurt Ralske, Ester appeared in early 2012 via Domino and Double Six Records. Following its release, the band largely withdrew from view for several years, resurfacing with only Lee and Aztoria remaining. Their second album, the eclectic 2017 release Althaea, wove Latin and Asian influences into the group's dream pop framework.
