Trevor Jackson has maintained parallel paths as both a screen performer and a maker of pop-tinged R&B. Indianapolis, Indiana, is his birthplace, and after playing Young Simba in Chicago's production of The Lion King he relocated to Los Angeles to gain proximity to film, television, and recording opportunities. A 2010 series-regular role on the SyFy network drama Eureka came next, while his part in the 2012 Disney hip-hop vehicle Let It Shine served as an immediate bridge into music. Atlantic Records signed him in 2013, the same year he dropped the singles "Like We Grown" and "Superman," both later included on the New Thang EP. Scattered releases throughout 2014 and the first half of 2015 led to the mixtape In My Feelings; afterward he returned to acting with a turn on American Crime, guest spots on Black-ish, and the lead in Burning Sands. Empire granted him a distribution arrangement, enabling a 2017 music resurgence marked by the singles "B&W (Benz and My Wallet)" and "NightTime," the second of which appeared on the 2018 project Rough Drafts, Pt. 1. By then he had also joined the principal ensemble of Grown-ish, the Black-ish spin-off. Two further singles followed in 2019: the sleek "Warning" and the ballad "Puddles."
