Fans know Twila Paris by the nickname "the modern-day hymnwriter," and she stands among the most productive vocalists and songwriters working in contemporary inspirational music. Born in Arkansas, she grew up with grandparents who traveled as itinerant preachers and conducted outdoor revival gatherings; her grandmother even composed hymns for those evangelistic events. Her father worked as a musician and directed a regional youth mission, so a path combining faith and melody appeared inevitable. She went on to enjoy substantial success as a performer and received frequent comparisons to the legendary Fanny Crosby for her lasting contributions to modern hymnody, since songs such as "We Will Glorify," "Lamb of God," "How Beautiful," and "Faithful Men" now appear in millions of hymnals used by churches worldwide. Widely regarded as one of the most popular praise and worship artists of her generation, Paris also released the book In the Sanctuary, written with theologian Robert Webber. The 1996 album Where I Stand became her commercial breakthrough and remains her best-selling record to date. Perennial: Songs for the Seasons of Life arrived in 1998, and True North followed the next year. Bedtime Prayers: Lullabies and Peaceful Worship appeared in early 2001. In 2003 she issued her first complete worship project since 1991’s Sanctuary; House of Worship contained ten new compositions along with updated versions of the well-loved classics "We Bow Down" and "We Will Glorify." Simply Twila Paris came out in 2005.
