Biography
Vallenfyre originated in 2010 when Paradise Lost mastermind Gregor Mackintosh formed the punishing English extreme metal supergroup—its name drawn from Old English for "strong fire"—initially as a side project and vehicle for processing the loss of his father. Over time the Halifax-based quartet matured into a precision death metal machine, its roster uniting Mackintosh with Hamish Glencross of My Dying Bride, Adrian Erlandsson from At the Gates and Paradise Lost, and Scoot of Doom and Extinction of Mankind. The group delivered its debut long-player, the cathartic and heartfelt yet undeniably powerful and abrasive The Fragile King, through Century Media in 2011. Its 2014 sophomore release, the aptly named Splinters, continued to draw from stalwart decibel-makers such as Celtic Frost, Autopsy, Discharge, Napalm Death, and early Bathory, a direction likewise evident on 2018’s hard-hitting Fear Those Who Fear Him.
