Biography
Within Silence emerged in 2014 as a hooky, melodic Slovakian power metal outfit when vocalist Martin Klein and guitarist/backing vocalist Richard Germanus assembled the project from the remains of Rightdoor. Their tightly constructed approach fuses driving dual guitars, hyperactive hard drumming, and a prominent, weighty bass foundation.
The group’s first full-length effort, Gallery of Life, appeared on the Swedish imprint Ulterium Records in 2015. Strong international response quickly translated into European touring and festival appearances across Norway, Germany, Slovakia, and the Netherlands, followed by support dates for Theocracy on that band’s European run the next year.
In 2016 the original bassist Filip Andel departed and Viktor Varga stepped in; November 2017 then saw the release of the second album, Return from the Shadows. Reviewers and listeners alike highlighted the expanded sonic scope, as melodic and symphonic progressive metal elements were folded into the band’s soaring framework, most strikingly on the sixteen-minute track “In The Darkness.”
Founding drummer Peter Gacik exited amid the COVID-19 pandemic and was succeeded by Peter Pleva, while original rhythm guitarist Martin Čičo also left that year, giving way to Majo Gonda. The revised lineup maintained an intensive European touring schedule for the ensuing eighteen months. Back in Slovakia the members completed material sketched on the road and entered the studio in early spring 2024, emerging with their third Ulterium release, The Eclipse of Worlds. The quintet produced the album itself; mixing was handled by Theocracy’s Matt Smith and mastering by Jacob Hansen.
