Formed in Spain around the seasoned skills of guitarist Tony Hernando of Saratoga, bassist Victor Durán, drummer Andy C., and Chilean-born vocalist Ronnie Romero—who fronted Rainbow at their 2016 reunion concerts—Lords of Black craft a style of power and progressive metal that blends soaring melodies with relentless drive rooted in classic rock. Echoing the approach of Masterplan, Symphony X, and Kamelot, the group delivered its self-titled debut album in 2014; Roland Grapow of Helloween and Masterplan handled co-production, mixing, and mastering for the LP. An intensive stretch of live dates followed, eventually securing the band an introduction to Frontiers Records. Once signed to the Italian imprint, Lords of Black headed back into the studio for a second album, which appeared in early 2016 under the title II and again featured Grapow as co-producer. Two years after that release, the quartet unveiled its third full-length effort, Icons of the New Days.
