The brainchild of singer and guitarist Jack Sharp, Wolf People came together in 2005 after Sharp laid down a demo album in the English town of Bedford. Taking its name from the children’s book Little Jacko and the Wolf People, the group revives the bluesy psychedelia associated with Black Sabbath, Cream, Traffic, and the early work of Jethro Tull and Fairport Convention, approaching those vintage sounds through a lens of nostalgic reverence. Sharp completed the lineup by bringing in drummer Tom Watt, guitarist Joe Hollick, and bassist Dan Davies. Following a handful of singles and EPs, the band achieved a notable milestone by becoming the first British act signed to the American indie label Jagjaguwar. In 2010 Wolf People issued both the Tidings compilation and their debut full-length album, Steeple. Their second album, the more theatrical and psych-infused Fain, appeared in 2013, while the 2016 release Ruins delivered a dense, fuzz-heavy meditation on nature’s reclamation of abandoned spaces.
