Yomil y El Dany formed as a Cuban reggaeton duo built around Roberto Hidalgo Puentes, performing as Yomil, and Daniel Muñoz, who records as El Dany. Before joining forces, Hidalgo worked as a mechanic and Muñoz studied medicine, and both had already logged time in Cuba’s thriving reggaeton underground. They first recorded together under the name DpuntoD, posting modest club and social-media results before parting ways in 2011. Their official return in 2015 brought a sharper edge, fusing a raw, high-energy street aesthetic with trap, electronic textures, stateside reggaeton, and rap under the banner “trapton.” The duo’s opening release, “Tengo,” reworked Nicki Minaj’s “Truffle Butter” and quickly dominated club playlists across Cuba and Miami. A rapid succession of videos expanded their online reach, setting the stage for the 2015 arrival of their first album, Doping, which included the tracks “Rikabery” and “Estamos Ta’ Po.” The follow-up project, Sobredosis, surfaced the next May and climbed the Top Latin Albums chart that summer. Daniel Muñoz passed away in Havana on July 18, 2020, at age 31.
