Formed from alumnae of the Australian Idol competition—an offshoot of the American Idol franchise—Young Divas constitute a female vocal pop ensemble. In 2006, producers of the third season paired contestants Emily Williams and Kate DeAraugo as an initial duo. Executives at Sony BMG soon recognized commercial promise and expanded the lineup by incorporating first-season champion Paulini Curuenavuli alongside second-season winner Ricki-Lee Coulter. The quartet’s inaugural release, a rendition of Donna Summer’s “This Time I Know It’s for Real,” arrived in May 2006 and climbed to number two on the ARIA Singles Chart. Strong public demand prompted an immediate trip to Sydney to film the accompanying music video. Their next offering, a cover of Lonnie Gordon’s “Happenin’ All Over Again,” followed shortly afterward and secured another placement inside the national Top Ten. The self-titled debut album appeared in November 2006, attaining platinum certification within three weeks and double-platinum status by the sixth. Additional broadcast exposure included multiple slots on Dancing with the Stars and It Takes Two.
